Blockchain Game Developer Horizon Raises $40M in Series A Funding Round

Horizon, the developer of non-fungible token (NFT) trading card game Skyweaver, has raised $40 million in a Series A funding round, the firm said on Tuesday.

The blockchain-based gaming startup plans to use the capital to build out its Sequence developer platform, Niftyswap marketplace and Skyweaver game and to hire more staff.

Flagship-founded Cellarity tacks on $121M series C to fund cell behaviour pipeline

Flagship-founded Cellarity has hauled in $121 million in new series C funds as the biotech continues to push its cell behavior therapies toward the clinic. 

The latest financing round, announced Tuesday, brings the company’s total raised to $274 million since Cellarity launched at the end of 2019. Whereas much of drug development centers on diving deeper and deeper into specific molecules, Cellarity is betting on a larger answer: The company has focused on mechanisms of whole cells and their impact on disease progression. Using machine learning, Cellarity says it’s able to make digital predictions on potential targets at a faster pace than the usual screening process.

Wheeler Bio Holds Initial Closing of Series A Funding Round
Wheeler Bio, an Oklahoma City, OK-based contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), raised an undisclosed amount in Series A funding.

The round was led by Charles River Laboratories and Echo Investment Capital with participation from ATUM, Floating Point Advisors, Plains Venture Partners, and Pine Ridge Ventures. 

Partake Foods raises $11.5 million in Series B funding

NEW YORK — Partake Foods, a brand of allergy-friendly foods, has raised $11.5 million in a Series B funding round to support continued growth momentum.

Founded in 2016, Partake Foods’ portfolio is free from the top nine allergens, including wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, milk, eggs, soy, fish, sesame and shellfish. Products include crunchy and soft-baked cookies in such flavors as birthday cake, triple chocolate and ginger snap, as well as baking mixes and pancake and waffle mixes. Founder and chief executive officer Denise Woodard ended a decade-long career at the Coca-Cola Co. to launch the business after her infant daughter was diagnosed with severe food allergies. Today, Partake Foods products are available in 9,000 retail outlets, including Whole Foods Market, Walmart, Target, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market and more. The brand notched 200% year-over-year growth from 2020 to 2021 and 100% year-over-year growth from 2021 to 2022.

Railsr secures USD 46 mln Series C funding round

Embedded finance platform Railsr has closed its Series C round, raising USD 46 million consisting in USD 26 million of equity and USD 20 million of debt.

The equity portion was led by Anthos Capital, who led the Railsr Series B in July 2021, and includes other existing investors spanning Europe, North America, and Asia: Ventura, Outrun Ventures, CreditEase, and Moneta. The debt portion of the round was with Mars Capital, a new investor in the company.

DEA-licensed cannabis cultivator closes $20 million Series A funding round

Biopharmaceutical Research Co., one of seven cultivators licensed by the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration to grow cannabis primarily for research purposes, closed a $20 million Series A funding round.

According to a news release, the Castroville, California-based company plans to use the venture-capital proceeds to:

  • Scale operations.
  • Expand product offerings.
  • Conduct sponsored research.
  • Execute its go-to-market strategy.
